How to Make Homemade Christmas Egg Nog
Egg Nog is a traditional Christmas drink that has been around for... well, we don't know exactly how long. (That's still being debated. 🤓) As you guessed, this drink does contain eggs. So grab your pasture-raised chicken eggs and let's get in the kitchen! This recipe is not made with alcohol - we prefer to make it for everyone and let the adults mix theirs to their liking. This recipe is based on the popular Alton Brown egg nog recipe. I hope you enjoy!
  • Prep Time:
  • Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • (4) Egg Yolks
  • (1/3 cup, plus 1 tbls) Sugar
  • (1 pint) Whole Milk
  • (1 cup) Heavy Cream
  • (1 tsp) Nutmeg
  • (4) Egg Whites
  • (1/8 tsp) Vanilla Extract

Directions

  1. Using a mixer, beat the egg yolks until they are lighter in color. Then gradually mix in the 1/3 cup sugar and beat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. On high heat, combine the milk, cream, nutmeg, and vanilla in a medium saucepan, stirring occasionally. As soon as it comes to a boil remove from the heat.
  3. Slowly stir the hot mixture into your egg yolk mixture, then return everything to the pot. Cook until the mixture reaches 160* F, then remove from heat, pour it into a mixing bowl, and put in the refrigerator to chill.
  4. Now beat the egg white until it forms soft peaks. While beating, gradually add the 1 tbsp sugar. Continue beating until stiff peaks form, then whisk into the chilled mixture.

Best served chilled. We make ours without alcohol for everyone to enjoy, but feel free to add rum or bourbon to your liking.
